National

• Ram Mandir, Ayodhya: the consecration (Pran Pratishtha) ceremony was held on 22 January 2024.
• Lok Sabha elections 2024: elections to the 18th Lok Sabha were held from April to June; Narendra Modi took oath as Prime Minister for a third consecutive term on 9 June 2024.
• New criminal laws: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam came into force on 1 July 2024, replacing the IPC, CrPC and Indian Evidence Act.

Odisha

• New government: Mohan Charan Majhi was sworn in as Chief Minister of Odisha on 12 June 2024 – the first BJP Chief Minister of the state. Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida became Deputy Chief Ministers.
• Subhadra Yojana: launched on 17 September 2024 in Bhubaneswar, giving eligible women aged 21–60 years ₹50,000 over five years.
• Cyclone Dana made landfall on the Odisha coast near Bhitarkanika–Dhamara in October 2024.

Sports

• India won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on 29 June 2024 in Barbados.
• At the Paris Olympics 2024, India won 6 medals (1 silver, 5 bronze).
• D. Gukesh became the youngest ever World Chess Champion in December 2024, and India won both the open and women’s gold medals at the Chess Olympiad in Budapest.
