As per our motto, a student must first understand the concept, then focus on accuracy, and only then work on speed. Quantitative Aptitude (Maths) is asked in Banking, SSC, Railway, OSSC, OSSSC, ASO and Police exams. Many Arts students stopped studying Maths after Class 10, so we teach it from the basics, individually.
Important topics in Quantitative Aptitude
Arithmetic
Number system, simplification, percentage, ratio and proportion, average, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, time and work, time, speed and distance, mixtures.
Advanced Maths
Algebra, geometry, trigonometry and mensuration – very important for SSC CGL and CHSL.
Data Interpretation
Tables, bar graphs, pie charts and line graphs – a large part of Banking exams.
Speed maths
Tables up to 30, squares up to 30, cubes up to 20, fraction–percentage conversion and approximation.
Divisibility rules – quick reference
| Divisible by | Rule | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Last digit is even | 3,584 |
| 3 | Sum of digits is divisible by 3 | 2,451 → 2+4+5+1 = 12 |
| 4 | Last two digits divisible by 4 | 7,316 → 16 ÷ 4 = 4 |
| 5 | Last digit is 0 or 5 | 9,875 |
| 6 | Divisible by both 2 and 3 | 1,458 |
| 7 | Double the last digit and subtract it from the rest; the result must be divisible by 7 | 203 → 20 − 6 = 14 ✓ |
| 8 | Last three digits divisible by 8 | 5,136 → 136 ÷ 8 = 17 |
| 9 | Sum of digits divisible by 9 | 8,145 → 8+1+4+5 = 18 |
| 11 | Difference between the sums of alternate digits is 0 or a multiple of 11 | 918,082 → (9+8+8) − (1+0+2) = 22 ✓ |
| 13 | Osculator method: add 4 × last digit to the rest | 91 → 9 + 4×1 = 13 ✓ |

Tips to improve your score
- Memorise tables, squares and cubes – they save seconds on every question.
- Solve each chapter’s basic questions without a timer first. Speed comes later.
- Keep a notebook of formulas and your own mistakes, and revise it weekly.
- In the exam, attempt arithmetic and simplification first, and leave lengthy questions for the end.
